Memorable Moments - Winch Triple Play

Angelo Italiano, Thursday June 14, 2018

Every season has moments that are sometimes magical, often hilarious, and undoubtedly memorable.

In this segment of Memorable Moments we look back to the game on Friday, June 1st, 2018.

The undefeated Royals were facing the Blue Jays. Up 9-3 in the 5th inning, Jordan Winch moved from Pitcher to Second Base. Adam Firestone came in and was quickly touched up for 5 hits and a walk. Now 9-6 with the bases loaded and no outs, the Blue Jays were back at the top of their line up. Mike "Zimmy" Zimmerman stood with a 1-1 count. He laced a fastball right at Winch at 2B. Winch, shaded and positioned perfectly made an easy grab. He took two steps to second base, one to catch and the other to position his body to touch the bag and throw. Doubling off Steve McHale at second base, Winch pivoted and delivered a strike to Jimmy Jr. at first base to get the rookie Robinson and complete the 4-3 triple play. A memorable moment that helped the Royals keep their undefeated streak alive.
