As we approach the midway point of the season, Memorable Moments continue to accrue. We look back to Friday June 22nd on D1-A game featuring the climbing Blue Jays and gritty Astros.
Up 7-0 in the second inning, under clear skies, Steve McHale steps to the plate. With a single already under his belt, the quiet catcher stands with confidence.
McHale, a steady player, hasn't hit a HR since 1979, but that night the Baseball Gods were smiling down on him. With ice in his veins he cranks a 2-1 pitch over the RF wall. A solo shot, Steve parades around the bases to reach home plate and greet his cheering teammates. The Blue Jays went on to route the Astros, as McHale ended a successful night a triple away from the cycle.
