League Legend - Camillo Guglielmi

, Monday August 20, 2018

Our year end banquet and awards is the most prestigious event annually held by the RHMRBL. Back in the day many would dress up, bring their wives or girlfriends (or both!), and party into the wee hours of the night. Although our venues may change year to year, the party is still the same. We’re all together, reminiscing of the season that was, envious of the champions at their table anxiously awaiting the Reaper Cup and personal trophies. Personal accolades are awarded-some predictable, some not. In the days of League Legend Camillo Guglielmi, one thing was for sure-he was nominated by his team for The Svenner award, and the odds on favorite to win it!

The Svenner award represented something different. As described by Cam “Googli” himself “It’s the award for the guy who is the ‘glue’ of the team.” Legend has it that Tim Warren incepted the award, Cam won it 5 times, en route to 5 championships.

Camillo was an absolute treat to play with. A positive, witty jokester, with virtually no filter. He was a calming presence on the field. Although statistically he didn’t dominate, he was absolutely clutch-coming up with big at bats in crucial situations. A catcher, he wasn’t gifted with superior attributes, but he knew how to play the game, and was an excellent teammate (and catcher!).

Googli was arguably the greatest rookie trainer. Keeping newbies in-line, he made sure to instill the league values, and always shared tapestry stories-ensuring that the fabric of the league lived on.

If all that wasn’t enough, there was always The Moon Show! Friday nights in particular, on his way out of the lot (or sometimes as he simply travelled the lot from circle to circle) his van would seemingly drive itself as his pale ass hung out the window! A treat, no doubt, mostly for himself!

Honored at our All Star Game this summer, we’re all hopeful that this legend makes a return to the league he helped grow.
